City of Gods
A downloadable game
The City of Gods is so called because it is a wellspring of dangerous divinity, even if nobody knows for certain why. Anyone who sets foot inside its walls can become a god, and so the hopeful, desperate, and vicious flock here to obtain power. Most burn like fireworks: brilliant, short-lived, and potentially very dangerous to those around them. It takes both native willpower and discipline to hold off godhood long enough to handle it when it does come. Only those who are able to wait, gathering power and resources, end up being truly dangerous. These are the city's great gods; religious leaders, martial artists, and mafia heads, restricted to their own domains but even more powerful within them. Still, most of them will never reach an internal state of divinity that would allow them to leave the city as gods. They're stuck here.
You've been brought here to get rid of someone's enemies and any other obstacle to their rise, and if you renege on your debt they won't be happy.
In addition to getting in, you've been bonded to biomechanical divine limiters: black armor shot through with neon light. It burns off divine energy, but if you really lose your cool it can only do so much. You can buy, earn, or steal modules that raise your divinity limit, getting you that much closer to being able to take off the training wheels and call yourself a great god. Some people do it by pure willpower, but you just don't have the time. There's something you want, some reason you came here, and you won't rest until you get it.
In City of Gods, a Forged in the Dark tabletop RPG, you will fight, fly, hack, charm, and trick your way to killing the great gods of the city and taking their place. This system includes new color mechanics for setting the mood and looking sick as hell, combo mechanics for fast-past cybermagic action, and a narrative beat system for crew advancement based on the type of story you want to tell.
At the moment, this game is in beta. If you played it, comment or email me to tell me what you liked and didn't like! I have files for a color version and a black-and-white version that replaces colors with textures. I'm especially interested to know if anyone manages to play that! I've now added a color/texture hybrid version that should be friendly to most types of colorblindness. If you're colorblind and you have feedback on this version I'd love to hear it!
